Stamukhi Log Parameters

Power BI based viewer above visualizes records of stamukhi observations derived from satellite imagery available over the region of the Northern Caspian Sea. Individual point observations are summarised into a 10X10 km grid. More details on stamukhi detection methods is given on our page dedicated to research of the phenomena.

The catalogue is regularly updated with new observations during winters and with historical records for earlier years.

Map View Settings

Area view – colouring the grid by stamukhi phenomena intensity observed in the cell (average area coverage by all stamukhi in a cell accumulated for each selected period in a season).
Count view – colouring the grid by stamukhi phenomena quamtities observed in a cell by averaged for each selected period in a season .

Basic Filter Options

Season is a drop-list of seasons available for public access.
Detected is a slider defining date range of the first observation date of stamukhi in a cell.
Melted is a slider defining date range of the last observation date of stamukhi in a cell.

Advanced Filter Options

Width is standard WMO index to define stamukhi horizontal size in meters. Database contains observations with accuracy up to 15 m for most of the records confirmed with Landsat or Sentinel-2 images.
Area is a derivative from width parameter indicating spatial coverage of stamukhi in square kilometers.
Duration indicates persistence of stamukhi in days.
Zone filters dataset to show observation for a specific forecast area (see Ice and metocean dashboard for delineation)
Depth Categories is a list of water depth ranges at stamukhi locations in meters. Water depth parameter of each stamukha accounts for average sea water level and bathymetry at stamukha location.
Distance to coast is distance in nm from stamukhi location to closest point of shoreline at caspian sea level of 0 m.
